Welcome to the World Kigo Database !
The World Kigo Database is collecting words from all over the world that may be used as seasonal words (kigo 季語) for haiku of the respective areas. It is based on the concept of a Japanese Dictionary of Seasonal Words (saijiki 歳時記), but addresses all cultures, areas and regions of the world, where people are now writing haiku in languages other than Japanese.
Regional cultural keywords (topics) are also included.
Every haiku poet is welcome to contribute !
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This database covers more than 6000 seasonal themes (kidai) and seasonal words (kigo).
They can not all be shown in the ABC index, so please use the general search for a specific keyword:

world haiku...
one man's kigo,
is another's topic
~Vaughn Seward [CAN.AB] May 2006

A final thought about Japanese and English Haiku before we start :
If you take a tom cat,
cut off his head (kigo),
cut off his four legs (5-7-5),
cut off his tail (kire-ji) and
present this creature to the world,
what would it be called?
