The red fruit of the European "wild roses".

quote
The rose hip and rose haw, is the pomaceous fruit of the rose plant, Dog Rose, that typically is red-to-orange, but ranges from dark purple to black in some species. Rose hips begin to form in spring, and ripen in late summer through autumn.

Rose hips are used for herbal tea, jam, jelly, syrup, beverages, pies, bread, wine, and marmalade.
A few rose species are sometimes grown for the ornamental value of their hips, such as Rosa moyesii, which has prominent large red bottle-shaped fruits.

Rosa canina (lit. Dog Rose)
is a variable scrambling rose species native to Europe, northwest Africa and western Asia.
The plant is high in certain antioxidants. The fruit is noted for its high vitamin C level and is used to make syrup, tea and marmalade.
During World War II in the United States Rosa canina was planted in victory gardens, and can still be found growing throughout the United States, including roadsides, and in wet, sandy areas up and down coastlines.

Other old folk names include rose briar (also spelt brier),
briar rose, dogberry, weet briar, wild briar, witches' briar, and briar hip.

In Russian, its name is шиповник (translit: 'shipovnik'), which translates as "thorn bearer."

Before the advent of air conditioning, people had to endure the hot summer.
Now many homes have at least one aircon and buildings and department stores are fully cooled.
When you enter a cooled room after spending some time outside, this is indeed a feeling of relief.

The Japanese units for air conditioning have developed quite a bit during many years.
The units do not only cool but have to cope with the great humidity of the Japanese summer.

Some offices are cooled down so much that the office ladies wear sweaters and blankets on the knees to keep from "air conditioning illness" 冷房病.

To save energy, many offices keep the temperature at 27 or 28 degrees centigrade since 2005.

Natural air conditioning in former times was simple:
a room in the shade where the wind could blow through, so the homes were constructed with many windows and blinds before them.

Thick tiles or roofing to keep the direct sunshine out.

Air conditioning
is the dehumidification of indoor air for thermal comfort. In a broader sense, the term can refer to any form of cooling, heating, ventilation, or disinfection that modifies the condition of air. An air conditioner (often referred to as AC or air con) is an appliance, system, or machine designed to stabilise the air temperature and humidity within an area (used for cooling as well as heating depending on the air properties at a given time), typically using a refrigeration cycle but sometimes using evaporation, commonly for comfort cooling in buildings and motor vehicles.
