Welcome to the World Kigo Database !


The World Kigo Database is collecting words from all over the world that may be used as seasonal words (kigo　季語) for haiku of the respective areas. It is based on the concept of a Japanese Dictionary of Seasonal Words (saijiki　歳時記), but addresses all cultures, areas and regions of the world, where people are now writing haiku in languages other than Japanese.
Every haiku poet is welcome to contribute !

NOTE:
sajiki is a misspelling of SAIJIKI.

THE HAIKU DATABASE
is an attempt to put into a searchable, sortable, electronic database all important haiku that have appeared in English. I began working on the project in September 1998 and so far (March 2004) have captured 98,500 haiku.
